Well, I hate to admit it, but the fishing action hasn’t exactly been hot and heavy for the Bug Chucker, Inc crew as of late. I got exactly two cast in before I was kicked off of the rocks buy a quasi private landowner wanting to close his gate at sunset on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. KG was just in Key West and chased the sly bonefish at the bottom of his glass of SoCo instead of the ones on the flats. No bother, though, it isn’t like things have been very conducive to trout fishing as the heat waves and the drought of summer 2012 hits our area and two-thirds of the country. So, tonight, as a cop-out I’ve wanted to hold out on until the winter, I give you a food porn ala Anthony Bourdain type post. After all, when you can’t fish, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the gifts from the water. It’s tough to decide on how to present this. Random? No. Order of lesser animals to greater? No. It’s food porn, it’s my preference. As difficult as it is to place the different types of seafood in order of favorite, objectivity is undermined by the preference of the palate on a given day. But, as I sit here tonight, having just enjoyed a fantastic plate of shrimp and linguini (alas not very photogenic) made with fresh tomato and herbs from my garden, and after this past week’s east coast seafood crawl, I have an unscientific ordering of my preferences: The Anadromous Fishes: Striped Bass (Rock Fish) from the East Coast and Sockeye Salmon from the Pacific.

And my favorite of the shellfish the Blue Crab, preferably from Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay.

; And finally, our friend, who now doesn’t let months without the letter R scare him. The food item, where the first guy to eat them had to be extremely hungry, the reef mad oyster. Don’t forget to tip your shucker.
